Website redesign checklist for Montreal small businesses

By Tanya Ganian · Updated October 17, 2026

A website redesign is a chance to fix everything that isn’t working. It’s also the easiest way to lose the Google rankings you already have. Use this checklist before, during and after your redesign.

Before you start

  1. Write down the goal. More calls? More bookings? More quote requests? One clear goal shapes every page.
  2. List your pages and their traffic. Google Search Console shows which pages bring visitors. Keep or improve those.
  3. Collect what clients ask you. Their real questions become your page copy and FAQ.
  4. Decide on French and English. If you serve Quebec clients, plan a French version from the start. Here’s why.

During the redesign

  1. One main topic per page. Each page should target one search, like “Montreal web design” or “bathroom renovation Laval”.
  2. Mobile first. Design for phones, then scale up.
  3. A clear next step on every page. Call, book or request a quote.
  4. Speed. Compress images, avoid heavy plugins and test on a real phone.
  5. Accessibility. Good contrast, readable text, keyboard navigation and image descriptions.

At launch

  1. 301 redirects from every old page address to its new one, so you keep your rankings and no visitor hits a dead link.
  2. Submit your sitemap in Google Search Console.
  3. Test every form and make sure inquiries actually reach your inbox.
